FIRST POST!!111!!

Only joking. Well, here I sit trying to write the first blog post for the new Escapers blog. Much as I'd love to tell you all about The Escapers, and our new Mac program Flux, I'd probably rather buy Tekken 5 off the Playstation Store, and play that instead. However, I'll get told off if I don't do this, so here goes...

I'll start off by saying a little something about The Escapers. We're based right in the middle of London, England. You know, the city that made that awful logo for the 2012 Olympics. We started The Escapers, principally to escape from our day jobs, and do what we actually want to do, which is write cool Mac software. We're hoping Flux is the first step in that direction, and I'll let you know how we get on in this blog.

At the moment Flux is in beta, and it's possible that when using you'll find bugs that would scare your mum, but rest assured that we're going to stamp them all out, and anyone that buys Flux while in beta, will get get free upgrades all the way to the point where that beta badge is removed, and probably beyond.

We've all been in the position where we've had to pay for upgrades rather more than feels natural, I know I have, so we'll make sure we don't fall into that trap.

But we're not just going to use this blog to talk about The Escapers and Flux, we'll probably also pay homage to the good people at Panic (although we won't mention Coda, not ever) and review tasty snacks from this side of the pond. We like to read about the crazy stuff you can buy in the U.S.A., so we'll take the opportunity to spread the word about the stuff you can find over here (feel the love).

If Flux can replace GoLive for me, you guys (gals/canines) are my heros!

Not that I'm sick of GoLive and it's wacked and wretched Version Cue...

I'm a veteran BBEdit hand coder but I've been looking for something more user friendly to recommend to friends. Flux seems to fit the bill.

Can I just point out out that there is a space missing in the ... /> XHTML endings in every case. You might want to look at that.

Hey Fellows, this looks absolutely amazing. I'll tell you what would make this a killer app and really grab the buzz of the community: Integrate Ruby on Rails development in a novel way. AND, a very interesting twist on this, would be to get a hold of Tom Locke who lives over near your neck of the woods who is developing Hobo at HoboCentral.net. He has some amazing work that if you could create a DRYML editor and be able to quickly wire things up with some of the work that you've already done, you would have THE killer web development tool above all the big names.

Looks good - I'm looking forward to giving the beta a try. I'm looking for just this sort of app to help me get away from Dreamweaver and GoLive - I just need to make simple, CSS-based, standards compliant web pages. Maybe a gallery or two and a simple php form. I'm not a developer, I'm a designer and I've been looking for a tool without the fuss or overhead of the Adobe products.

Hi.
Just a short hello from Denmark.
Would you be interested in localizations of flux? It seems to be a nice kind of software, and I could do a Danish localization, if you like.

Thanks for the offer Sebastian,a danish localization would be great. Please mail me at: us@OURCOMPANYNAME.com

Hello, Escapers --

You did say on the Flux webpage that you want to hear our comments. But, erm, there doesn't seem to be any way to send them other than commenting on this blog! So...

-- First, there are many things I really like about Flux: the appearance, the overall logic, even the backstory (gotta love the concept of people trying to ditch their day jobs.)

But stability is still fairly horrid as of beta 1.0.2: The application quits abruptly several times during every work session; using the 'undo' command is extremely unpredictable in terms of what actually gets undone; elements (inline graphics especially) mysteriously disappear when a page is previewed or redrawn; etc.

The upshot of this is that while I understand that we need to be paying the $50 fee to encourage the Escapers to keep working, there is still a lot of work to be done before this can be considered a commercial-quality application. Agreed?

-- I strongly approve of the concept of relying on built-in MacOS tools for many functions such as file management, rather than trying to create a hugely complex do-it-all product a la GoLive or Dreamweaver.

Still, there are some surprising omissions: No way (other than hand-coding) to create a simple href link, or a simple table?

(Maybe these features ARE already in the product, if only there were a tutorial, or a help file, or a user discussion forum, to help people find and learn to use them. But there isn't, is there?)

-- This can't really be considered the Escapers' fault, but it's the biggest deal-breaker so far: I can create sites with Flux that look beautiful in Safari, in Firefox, in Netscape 7, and even in the Mac version of Internet Explorer.

But when viewed in Internet Explorer for Windows XT, they come out hopelessly scrambled, with no clue as to what's wrong or how to fix it.

Yes, I read the part of the Q&A about how if your page doesn't display properly in browser X, it's browser X's own fault for not supporting CSS correctly. Nobly pure sentiment.

But let's face it, rightly or wrongly, Windows Internet Explorer is what 90%+ of the world uses to view pages, and if Flux can't help me create pages that will look OK in it, I can't really get much practical use out of it no matter how much I like it.

So, bravo thus far and keep up the good work... but on the other hand, please don't STOP working!
