A little bit late

Well, we finally got our new version of Flux out the door, over a week later than intended, so I apologise for that, but I guess we're not a real software house until we start missing self-imposed dealines :-)

So, the latest version of Flux has quite a few new features suggested by our lovely userbase (they really are lovely, smell like freshly cut grass on a summer's day). The big addition is support for multiple CSS files, that's going to allow us to provide a lot more pre-packaged add-ons for cool Javascript/CSS effects, so stay tuned for that. It's also to going to make Flux's import of existing sites somewhat better, still not perfect, but it's a marathon not a sprint, and we'll get there in the end.

We've also put in quite a few UI fixes, text-handling in Flux 1.0.14 is now a lot more fluid and more Mac-like. For those who needed Flux to be a bit faster, we've optimised some areas to make it a bit more responsive, particularly on less-nippy Macs like G4s. We're continuing to work on the speed of Flux, so stay tuned.

Finally, I know a lot of you have told us that you need more docs for Flux, and we've got to hold our hands up and say we've failed you somewhat in not providing documentation sooner. The reason is mostly that at the moment, Flux is in a state of, well, flux, and if we wrote docs right now, they'd be out of date in a month. But that's no excuse, and we are working on it, so we'd like a little input, what sort of documentation do you prefer:

1) Traditional instructions.
2) Online FAQ and quick examples.
3) Screencasts

We'd hope to have all three, but if we were to prioritise one of them, what should it be?

Well I of course would like all three, but online helps and a sample would be the best starting place for me.

I vote for quick nice shiny examples, because manuals are boring. And maybe something like bug-tracker could be useful too :)

screencast, plez!
I just tried the app and I really like it, but it's kind of hard to figure out some basic stuff like 'how to open existing pages'
anyway, its very promissing! I'll keep an eye, so keep it rolling ;)

Traditional or online. No screencasts, they steal bandwidth and it can take longer to find what you're looking for.

A wiki!

great work!! .. I vote for a wiki and bug tracker - I'm a huge DW fan, and flux is quickly looking like a contender

One thing though - when I highlight text in flux - it always crashes

hey jessey! we really appreciate your input, and it would be great if you could contact us with details of your crash, it all helps to make Flux a better app. Thanks a lot!

sure! I'll gladly share

when I create a text area (which by the way is difficult to manage with the menu, took me a couple of frustrating tries to get the right formatting, even after viewing your video tutorial) BUT I got it non the less.

When I try to edit (using backspace or highlighting text) it just quits! I have a macpro workstation and its a horse - so its not the lack of resources.

Can we have an easier text formating menu options that are clearly activated when an element is selected?

I have to say - as an avid DW user, flux is an excellent tool to work side by side.

Curious, seems that things have been dead for a while with Flux in terms of movement. Any updates as to what may be happening behind the curtains?

I have only had a computer (mac) for two years (I'm over 50). I recently taught myself html. I was impressed with the results so did an evening class in it. I have tried DW and don't like it. Plus my mac is only a basic mini. However I use it as a server and FLUX is the obvious next step. I have been playing with it and have decided to but it. It's cheep enough not to worry about the cost unlike DW. I hope it's a success for you guys.

I would love to see some screencast tutorials to help with the learning curve and showcase features (similar to how the devs of Pixelmator are doing tutorials).

Otherwise a really promising app which will hopefully nudge Dreamweaver off its throne.
